Tim Arfons

From the time he was born in 1955, Tim Arfons was exposed to a work ethic that combined speed, excitement, showmanship and "thinking outside of the box." Growing up under the watchful eye of his father, the legendary three-time outright land speed record holder, Art Arfons, it was probably only natural Tim would follow his father's path. As he grew to adulthood, Tim watched and later began to participate in his Dad's quests in the famed "Green Monster" to be the "Fastest Man on Earth" on the Bonneville Salt Flats of Utah.

Starfire Corvette Funny Car

Back    Next

The funny car competition came more into play with an entire class of pulling funny cars. I wanted to step it up, so I built Starfire, the Corvette pulling funny car. It featured an all-chrome GE-T-58 motor and I sat right next to the motor inside the car. Starfire was undefeated in USHRA competition.

It was bulletproof. I didn't even carry any spare parts for it because it never broke. I campaigned it on my own, touring the country in the converted school bus. It had a tremendous fire show and a beautiful paint job by Bruce Mail as well as lettering by the famous Gregg of Akron.
